DMARC, DKIM and SPF and why they are important

In October 2023, Google and Yahoo announced bulk senders are required to use DMARC and other best practices by February 2024.

The goal is to use these enforcement tools to alleviate illegitimate emails from entering your email inbox.

DOMAIN RECORD (DNS)

A domain record (xyx.com) is a set of instructions that connect your domain to IP addresses and also has instructions about security for email or other services.

SPF

A Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record is a DNS TXT record specifies the approved servers to send on behalf of your domain.

DKIM

A DKIM record (DomainKey Identified Mail) is a DNS TXT record that stores the public key used to verify the authenticity of email.

DMARC

A DMARC record (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) policy is a record in DNS that tells how to enforce emails that do or do not comply with DKIM and SPF.
